Ecuador will export 15% more of cocoa to the EU
Ecuador may export 15% more cocoa to the European Union (EU). “Our market niche is the fine chocolate. European consumers demand the black chocolate” told to daily Expreso Iván Ontaneda, President of the National Association of Cocoa Exporters of Ecuador (Anecacao).
The sector has a goal to publish more at international level the good quality that has our fine aroma cocoa. In the first semester of 2014 it was achieved an exports increase of 9.34% in tonnes and 40.27% in FOB value. According to the Central Bank of Ecuador, until June of the same year 87,855 tonnes of cocoa were sold worldwide, which represents more than $248 million.
To promote the cocoa activity, from 20 to 27 August, the producers are meeting in the Conventions Center of Guayaquil in the ‘II World Summit of Cocoa’. At the opening ceremony the contribution made by entrepreneurs like Alejandro Orellana, Pedro Martinete, Eduardo Márquez de la Plata and Esteban Quirola was awarded.
