Ecuador’s Army is prepared to fight external threats
The three branches of the Armed Forces of Ecuador have a contingent of 55 thousand people, between men and women.
In the Army alone there are 35 thousand. On the northern borders with Colombia, there are 26 detachments, with 7,000 soldiers.
This was reported by the commander of the II Army Division, Brigadier General Danilo Gachet, who said that the Ecuadorian Armed Forces have the necessary means to fulfill the assigned missions.
On August 22 and 24, the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) decided to return to arms, as announced in a video that circulated on social networks. Faced with this situation, the Colombian Government reacted and announced a reward to those who deliver the members of this subversive group.
But, the FARC group is not only a threat to Colombia, but also to neighboring countries, including Ecuador. In this regard, Gachet considered that “depending on the incidence of FARC operations at the border, the military command will decide whether or not to strengthen the area.” He said that despite budgetary and input problems, “we are a small army, we cannot compare ourselves with great powers, but we are prepared to combat the threats that afflict us.”
