El Universo newspaper today released a statement announcing that their international demand before the Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will continue in order to seek a way to clear the crime against the Perez brothers, directors of the media and Emilio Palacio, former editor of opinion.

According to the communiqué, “(…) we will continue the actions already initiated before the system for the protection of Human Rights, to annul the judgment that creates a precedent and to give a step in the search for guarantees in the free speech exercise in Ecuador.”

“While the decision of President Rafael Correa led to eliminate personal and pecuniary sanctions in the resolution of the National Court, the fact remains that this resolution, have caused damage, leaving a legal precedent that is a threat to the exercise of free speech, a fundamental civil right, “the statement said.
