Posted On 28 Aug 2015
About 170.00 hectares of cocoa have been affected by the brown rot plague (fungus) and has been declared in emergency by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture (MAGAP).
Producers will receive kits to combat pests and will attend workshops to treat their crops with the highest technology.
Esteban Saenz, president of the Association of Cocoa Producers of Ecuador, told Daily Expreso that the extension of rains affected the plants. In the Naranjal sector, for example, there are a lot of crops affected by the brown rot plague.
