EU sanctions against Russia come into force tomorrow
The European Union will finally apply from Friday sanctions against Russia due to Russian participation in the war in Ukraine.
After numerous discussions between representatives of the Twenty eight in Brussels, EU ambassadors have decided this morning that the new restrictive measures against Moscow, the toughest approved up to the date, come into force tomorrow.
For the first time, the package includes punishments to the oil sector, of vital importance for Russia. The measures were about to be approved on Wednesday, but the ambassadors wanted to re-examine the matter this Thursday in the morning.
The sanctions were delayed because of doubts of member countries, and the fear that the measure affect the ceasefire that lives Ukraine since last Friday, postponed the decision.
It is expected that the European Union publishes on Friday its official bulletin specifying the sanctions.
