Eugenio Derbez: A latin comedian consecrated worldwide
The perfect mix that has taken Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez to the top has been his creativity, sarcasm and irreverence, qualities that made him so succesful that nowadays have led him to Hollywood.
Only in the first weekend after its release in the United States, the film starred, directed and co-written by Derbez, ‘No refunds’, managed to positioned in the fifth place at the box office, grossing a total of $ 10.3 million . This achievement is even more remarkable when known that this is the first Spanish-language film that has raised that amount of money in its first weekend projection.
The actor, producer and director Eugenio Derbez began his career as a comedian in the company Televisa, where years later became a star thanks to the characterization of characters such as the Lonje Moco, Armando Hoyos among others, in his programs ‘Derbez en Cuando’, ‘Al derecho y al Derbez’ and ‘XH Derbez’. He then worked giving Donkey his voice in the animated film like Shrek, spanish version, and in Mulan as Mushu.
Once consecrated as a leading figure in the Mexican comedy, Eugenio Derbez published two successful books: ‘The Unauthorized Biography of Armando Hoyos’ and ‘Armando Hoyos: Dictionary of the Epidemic of Language’, selling about 400,000 copies between both publications.
Derbez’s life has always has revolved around comedy, as in the small screen, cinema, even in the theater, as he did in the plays ‘Sálvese quien pueda’ and ‘Ninnete y un Señor de Murcia’, winning the award for Best Actor in a Comedy in Mexico. He came to Broadway after earning the U.S. market with the work ‘Latinologues’.
