Risks of accidents, premature deterioration in equipment, structural problems, legal disputes, economic losses, etc., just to name a few of the problems featured in five important oil works that have cost the country 5.042 billion dollars.
These projects are: the repowering and maintenance of the Esmeraldas Refinery, which has cost about $ 2.2 billion; the Pascuales-Cuenca Poliduct, $ 623 million; the Monteverde Chorrillo storage facility, $ 606.7 million; the Bajo Alto liquefaction plant, $ 85 million, and the land leveling process at the Pacific Refinery, $ 1,528 million.
According to Minister of Hydrocarbons Carlos Perez, the Esmeraldas Refinery has problems in the FCC Unit and requires a programmed shutdown of 45 days to be able to repair it. Every day of inactivity costs millions of dollars to the country. (I)
