Fierce Storms Raged in Cuenca
Strong rains and storms in Cuenca, Ecuador has left one person dead and three were seriously wounded, more than a hundred homes were flooded by collapse of sewers, hills, and overflowing rivers in more than seven sectors in the south of the city.
After a strong rain and a electric storm that was registered since last Tuesday at 16:00 (GMT), 20 minutes after the rain began, Cuenca’s fire department declared the maximum alert due to the help calls they received in sectors like El Salado, Calera, Huizhil, Misicata, Barabon bajo, Narancay, Arenal alto, among others due to the overflowing of their sewers.
In the area of El Carmen del Guzho, the water fell with the hill to the highway Cuenca-Azogues, the right lane was immediately flooded hence the transit became chaotic. By 18:00 (GMT) the water in that area surpassed the two meters. (AV)
