Posted On 07 Sep 2012

The slopes close to the company Pronaca have been consumed by the fire.
The sweltering forest fire lashing the area of San Luis, at Puembo, east of Quito, reaches its seventh day of devastating damage to the region, including the slopes bordering the entrance road of the Tababela airport.
The Fire Department came into the Tababela airport to extinguish the blaze while the airport staff watched as the flames consumed the vegetation just 2 meters away from the road.
Currently the forest fire continues and, due to the large amount of dry vegetation in the region and strong winds, has been revived with great intensity.
The Mayor of Quito, Augusto Barrera, declared emergency state in the city because of the wildfires around the capital. (MZ)
