Former presidents want to ‘save’ Yachay
Ecuadornews:
Two former deans from Yachay University dismissed days ago by President Carlos Castillo, ask to talk to the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Senescyt) Augusto Barrera.
On June 20, as part of a process of “optimization and good use of public resources based on national reality and applying austerity policies,” the rectorate laid off four officials: Catherine Rigsby, a former Chancellor; Paul Baker, former dean of Geological Sciences and Engineering; Paola Ayala, former dean of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology; And Vladimiro Mujica, former dean of Chemical Sciences.
Ayala (Ecuadorian) and Mujica (Venezuelan) launched a campaign to save Yachay, believing that behind this decision there is a “political operation,” which will affect its internationalization.
