Future of the Yasuní is not yet defined
After a meeting that lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, carried out in the Vice Presidency of the Republic in order to define what will happen with the Yasuní-ITT, the future of this green initiative is still uncertain, since all that was revealed was a statement in which the Vice President Jorge Glas refers to economic initiative results were not what the State expected.
The document arrived without specific information despite the fact that last Monday, President Rafael Correa announced through his Twitter account ” this week I must take a final decision about the Yasuní-ITT initiative”.
The plan, which was born in 2007 seeks to preserve underground 846 million of barrels of oil in the Ishpingo-Tambococha-Tiputini field; in exchange, foreign countries would contribute with $3 billion, which is 50% of what would be perceived by the exploitation of the oil; however, so far only $367 million have been raised.
