Galapagos was Affected by Remnants of Tsunami
Posted On 14 Mar 2011
Galapagos Island had three tourist locations affected by the strong waves, two of the places were located in the Island of San Cristobal and the third one was in Santa Cruz. According to preliminary reports the National Park Galapagos (PNG) indicated that the beaches of that location were lost because of the increased sea level.
In Santa Cruz, El Garrapatero a turtle nest was destroyed by the strong waves. The turtles were at a breeding centre located in the Island. However several species were evacuated from the island last Friday. The waves carried wood debris and plants when the water entered 400 meters inside the island causing terrible floods and damages to a dock filled with passengers.
