Gas station owners call for the end to subsidies
Posted On 12 Jul 2017
For 14 years the marketing, distribution and profitability system of the fuel business has maintained a scheme that, according to gas station owners, does not allow a profit margin. A proposed solution involves the elimination of subsidies and, in certain cases, a concession of the benefit to basic services. A request reiterated for years but not heard.
They have met with the deputy minister of Hydrocarbons to expose a problem they already discussed, without success, with the previous Government. Patricio Larrea listened to them, and although he did not comment on the subsidies, he offered to study the solutions. “Let’s hope it does not stay in an offer,” says Leonardo Alvarado, president of the Association of Fuel Distributors of Guayas.
