Government ensures that HR recommendations are being fulfilled
After that on last May 21, 2012, Ecuador submitted to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) before the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Organization (UN), in which it received 134 observations -24 of them related to the right to freedom of expression-, the government assures that, despite having a period of four years (2012-2016) to implement these observations, all recommendations are being carried out already.

Last March 21, 2012 at Geneva, the Ecuadorian delegation on HR received 134 recommendations.
However, the Fundamedios organization believes that such progress is not being currently applied, so they requested information from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights on the progress of the implementation of the recommendations received at the UN.
According to the document and Fundamedios’ analysis, there are no actions made by the state to improve the situation of freedom of speech and press, while it does have improved other fields, such as in protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
Fundamedios states that, on the contrary, the problems have worsen because there has been a substantial increase on attacks towards journalists, judgments against citizens who exercised their right to protest and increased hostile speech against the press.
