Gratuity in Higher Education is set in the new regulation
Posted On 03 Jul 2014
René Ramírez, Secretary of Higher Education, said in his Twitter account that the gratuity in college education will include life insurance and accident insurance for students. This announcement was made after the Board of Higher Education approved the Regulation to Ensure the Gratuity Compliance in Higher Education Public Institutions.
This new provision is complementary to the mandates of the Constitution and the Organic Law on Higher Education.
Germán Rojas, member of the Council, said that if a student fails a subject he loses gratuity. The same happens if he looses 30% of class hours in one semester, whereby he will have to pay between 10% and 50% of what the state spends on public universities, by career and by student.
