Guayaquil starts a new month of festivities

The city, aka “the Pearl of the Pacific,” starts today its festivities for its 193 years of independence, which will be commemorated on Wednesday October 9.

The City Hall, along with the Government, the Ministry of Culture and other government agencies will hold a series of events that include parades, dances, and performances of national and international artists to several audiences. It will also be developed a maritime proclamation in the Salado estuary.

Different neighborhoods in the city  already began to decorate the city with the colors blue and white, for the celebration of the heroic deeds of October 9th, 1820.

Schedule:

TUESDAY, 1

10:00 Young artists celebrate Guayaquil by painting murals of the quest for Independence with urban style in the passage Illingworth (Interior).

18:00 Artistic Civic Proclamation ‘Guayaquil is my Destiny’, in the Voltaire Paladines Polo Coliseum.

WEDNESDAY, 2

18:00 Retreat for the start of the October festivities at the San Francisco Square and the Seminario park, San Agustin park, Pedro Carbo park, Juan Montalvo park, and Centenario Square.

FRIDAY, 4

10:00 Serenade to Guayaquil by the highschool students, in different parts of the Malecon Simon Bolivar, the Centenario Square, Music Square in the Malecón del Salado, Lineal park, among other places.

10:00 Food Fair “Sazon Guayaca”. Over 20 restaurants will offer variety of traditional food from Guayaquil in the Governorate.

SATURDAY 5TH

19:00 Guayaquil Urbano concert in the passage Illingworth (Interior).

20:00 Guayaquil sings with two guitars: Gustavo Pacheco and Hector Napo will play at the  Administration Square

SUNDAY 6

14:00 Children’s Festival at the Simon Bolivar Cultural Center (MAAC).

MONDAY, 7

17:30 “La Vecina” Show in the  Illingworth passage (Interior).

WEDNESDAY 9

7:00 XVIII Student Civic Parade; it will last six hours and will travel 10 km.

8:00 wreath-laying ceremony at the Column of Heroes of October 9, by Mayor Jaime Nebot, in the Centenary Square.

10:00 Parade organized by the Armed Forces that will travel the Highway Narcisa de Jesus.

17:00 Formal sitting of the Municipality of Guayaquil for the CXCIII anniversary of independence of the city, in the Crystal Palace.

17:00 Popular session chaired by President of the Republic, Rafael Correa Delgado. It will be held on the esplanade of the Alberto Spencer Stadium.

SATURDAY 12

13:00 Estero Salado’s First Boat Parade. From Av. Portete bridge to 5 de Junio Av.

18:00 October’s Folk Festival in Much Lote of Bastion Popular

WEDNESDAY 16

19:00 Independence Concert in the Centennial Square.

FRIDAY 18

18:00 VII Guayaquilean Gala. The Band of the Metropolitan Police will play at the Teatro Jose de la Cuadra located in the  Plaza Colon.

SATURDAY 19

19:00 Artistic show with local artists in Florida Norte.

SUNDAY 20

8:00 1st Sports Championship where athletes and fans can practice tennis, basketball, volleyball, indoor and soccer for seven. It will be carried out from 08:00 am to 5:00 pm, in the Samanes park.

FRIDAY 25

17:00 XVII International Dance Festival, with academies and folk groups. Teatro Jose de la Cuadra, Plaza Colon

SATURDAY 26

15:00 Boxing match, with the participation of the best boxers of the province. It will be held on Sauces 8 (Next to Pollos El Encanto.)

18h00 Artistic festival “Guayaquil es mi destino”. Performances by Patricia Gonzalez, Pamela Cortes, Mirella Cesa, Jorge Luis del Hierro, Cuarteto Mestizo, Hilda Murillo, Hermanos Nunez , Katty Elisa y and other artists. It will be held at the Paseo de los Presidentes (Malecón Simon Bolivar.)

MONDAY 28

10:00 Painting Contest: The Shield and Our Country, in Plaza Colón.

THURSDAY 31

17:00 Retreat for the Independence party of Guayaquil. It will be held in the handmade Market “Machala”, Flower Market, Sundries Market Sundries, Puerto Lisa park, Sauces 9 Market and Guayaquil Craft Market.
