HIV Vaccine can Reduce Viral Load

A “therapeutic vaccine” against AIDS developed by researchers at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona has allowed for the first time “a significant decline in viral load in the body, although the result still being “insufficient.”

Scientists from a Public-private Catalan program that develops therapeutic and preventive vaccines against HIV (HIVACAT), presented on Tuesday the results of a “cell therapy” which caused “in most patients a significant decrease in the viral load.”

“This decline was considerable in some of them, but in any case the virus was undetectable,” so “the decrease in viral load still insufficient.”

“Previously any therapeutic vaccine had obtained the rates achieved in this study,” but it is not enough, so the investigations continue.
The goal is to find a vaccine that “minimizes the necessity of antiretroviral treatment,” because this is “chronic “and “the daily consumption is uncomfortable,” they claimed.
