IACHR designates Edison Lanza as new rapporteur for freedom of expression

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) selected the Uruguayan Edison Lanza for the position of Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression, replacing Colombian Catalina Botero, the institution said.
Lanza is a lawyer, journalist and consultant for international organizations on issues of freedom of expression and right to information.
The Commission forwarded the name of the selected to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) José Miguel Insulza, who agreed with the designation.
The new rapporteur takes office on October 6 for a period of three years, and may be reelected once again.
