The director of the Ecuadorian Association of Newspaper Publishers (AEDEP), Diego Cornejo, was chosen by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) as one of the winners of the IAPA Grand Prize for Press Freedom 2013.
The chairman of the Awards Committee of IAPA, Francisco Miro Quesada, stated that Cornejo and the Argentinean journalist Magdalena Ruiz Guiñazu were chosen for their remarkable career and mainly “for their continued courage and firmness in the defense of democratic values, especially the freedom of speech and press in the Americas.”
The winners chosen for the 12 categories will receive their awards at the 69th frame IAPA General Assembly to be carried out in a hotel in the city of Denver, Colorado, United States. The ceremony will take place from 18 to 22 October. The prize is $ 2000 cash, and the respective boards and diplomas.
