Images and signs of the Amazon are presented in Quito
Members of the Sharam and Yuwints communities, settled in eastern Ecuador, have developed a new form of expression based on the visual language. The name of the sample is “Images and symbols of the Amazon,” exhibited at the Humboldt Association in Quito.
Two years ago, these forms of visual expression caught the attention of Christoph Alhaus, professor of Visual Communication at the University of Applied Sciences of Ostwestfalen Lippe, Germany.
Althaus initiated a project aimed at rescuing the visual memory of the Shuar and Achuar peoples. On barks and handmade paper and using natural pigments, the indigenous that participated in this project left a visual record of their daily lives and their worldview.
