Innovation is the way for textiles and fashion

Ecuadornews:
The possibility of developing textile and fashion brands, including a country-level sectorial brand, was one of the suggestions raised yesterday by the Designer Book (DB), a platform that for seven years now has promoted the textile and fashion industry.
The suggestions are the result of a workshop on the textile and fashion industry in Ecuador, which took place during the Designer Book 2016 event in Quito.
Carlos Stowhas, director of the platform, acknowledged that the lack of added value in local textile products is a limiting factor as for competitiveness.
Natalie Vallarino, the technical coordinator of Pro Ecuador, pointed out that Ecuador’s textile exports in 2016 generated $ 112 million; a figure that does not exceed 1% of non-oil exports.
Faced with this, Stowhas noted the need of innovation to develop the national market through the union of artisans, designers, the private industry and the Government to generate joint strategies. (I)
