A study published last Thursday, July 4, in the U.S. portal Current Biology, indicates that the body gestures of chimpanzees “have specific meanings” that go “from the simple demand associated with some simple gestures to a broader conversation.”
The research studied 4,500 moments of exchange made by chimpanzees and 66 carriers gestures were identified from 19 specific messages, according to the authors, Catherine Hobaiter and Richard Byrne , of the St. Andrews University in Scotland.
The study was done about chimpanzees filmed in Uganda between 2007 and 2009.
