Jesus del Gran Poder procession takes Quito’s historic center
At 12:00 today was expectes the traditional ‘Jesus del Gran Poder’ procession in the city of Quito, which has as route the streets of the historic center of the city, with the ‘cucuruchos’ as the main character of this event.
It is estimated that around 2,100 parishioners participate in the organization of the ritual, of which 1,500 are cucuruchos, 300 ‘Veronicas’, 70 volunteers and 230 high school students from the San Andrés high school.
The image of the Sorrowful Virgin and Jesus del Gran Poder will be transported by two chassis (floats), which are 50 years old, and will be safeguarded by members of the Special Operations Group (GOE).
The Catholic procession has about 120 thousand people who will chant songs and prayers during the caravan, and shall be protected by 1,762 policemen of the center and south of Quito.
The route will depart from the Basilica of San Francisco and will travel from Bolivar streets, until reaching the church of San Francisco where the event will conclude.
