John Kerry will meet with Chancellor Patiño
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, and Secretary of State, John Kerry, would meet in April. According to Patiño, the purpose of the meeting is to improve bilateral relations between Ecuador and the United States.
Last week, Foreign Minister spoke by phone with Kerry and reported that both agreed that there are bilateral issues to address.
Among the topics to be discussed it is includes the extradition of Isaias, the application of the Bilateral Investment Treaty with Chevron and Oxy, cooperation between the two countries, trade agreements “without actually signing a FTA (Free Trade Agreement)” , migration and the change of venue of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
Patiño estimated that as an additional item, the U.S. ask them to talk about Ecuador’s granting of asylum to the leader of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange.
