Juan Carlos will not attend the proclamation of Philip VI
Posted On 13 Jun 2014
The royal house informed yesterday that Juan Carlos I will not attend the proclamation of his son Philip as king to give him “more prominence”.
After the proclamation, Kings Philip VI and Letizia plan to travel in a vehicle through the main streets of Madrid to the Royal Palace.
The Spanish authorities expect a “comprehensive security device” during the proclamation of the future king, on June 19. The anti-terrorism alert will be raised, the airspace will be restricted and the accesses to Madrid will be controlled.
The ceremony will be held at the Congress, at 10:30.
