“La India María” passes away at 74
“Tonta, tonta pero no tanto,” “El miedo no anda en burro,” “Okey Mister Pancho,” “Sor Tequila,” “El que no corre vuela,” “Duro pero Seguro,” “La comadrita,” and many other titles are among the films starred by Maria Elena Velasco, better known as “La India Maria,” a Mexican actress who passed away today at the age of 74.
The Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE), through its Twitter account reported the death of the actress. Velasco’s family has not ruled on the matter. It is presumed that the causes of death are attributed to stomach cancer, although the actress denied it.
Velasco made 21 films and a TV show, but also dabbled as a writer. Married to Russian director Vladimir Lipkies, they had three children: Ivette, Goretti and Ivan, who is a film director.
