The opposition´s leader, Guillermo Lasso, said today that President Lenin Moreno “is the continuity of Correa´s model” and asked the citizens not to be deceived. Lasso made these statements in the morning, after appearing in the Prosecutor´s Office to render his version in the Cedatos case, that began after a complaint made by the former Assembly vice-president, Rosana Alvarado, now Minister of Justice.
Lasso announced that CREO´s legislative bloc will present a law project “to repeal one of Correa´s law, which creates a civilian bloc for presidential protection”. “What concerns us this moment is that the Armed Forces and the National Police demand the repeal of that law that creates a civil security force, when the tradition and the right thing is that the Armed Forces and the National Police take care of the government officials´ safety”, he said.
“Secondly, it is said that he is going to maintain a good relationship with the press, but he doesn´t do what needs to be done: derogate the communication law”, he continued. “And the derogatory law must include the sale of the media that was seized and is now being used as own by ALIANZA PAIS to defame and insult everyone who thinks different.
“Next, it is said that we must defend the dollarization, but they don´t reform the Monetary Code to establish the economy of Ecuador´s Central Bank, to keep Ecuador´s Central Bank from giving credits to the government and also avoid the Central to issue money parallel to the dollar.
“It is said that they will fight against corruption, but the list of public officials that took fines from Odebrecht is not shown to the citizens. We cannot allow them to act under the pretext of reservation, promoting impunity for the corrupt ones. The Prosecution has the obligation to deliver this information to the National Assembly. And if they don´t do it, us, the citizens, will demand in the streets that the list of corrupt people is given. And do not come to us with the story that there is a lack of translators. The prosecutor has been very clear warning us that there is not only the Odebrecht case. There are also other companies that have paid fines. And if they don´t have translators, citizens are going to offer translators from Chinese to Spanish, to tell us everything that has happened”.
He also added: “We Ecuadorians can´t accept this change of style. Ecuador requires a fundamental change. And what we have perceived this few weeks is the continuity of Correa´s model”.
Lasso said that Rosana Alvarado was named minister of justice “as payment for filling a complaint against CEDATOS. Alvarado accused CEDATOS for falsifying the results in the exit poll of the second round, the past elections. According to the results this exit poll showed, Guillermo Lasso was the winner of the presidential election. Hours later, the National Electoral Council, with assemblymen majorly from the government, proclaimed Lenin Moreno as the winner. In this process, prosecutor Cecilia Garzon has decided to link the founder of the pollster, Polibio Cordovba, who has 42 years of experience. The alleged illicit association would have been with the advertising company Libercostas S.A., which is attributed proximity with the former candidate´s political movement (I).
