In an interview with the international network CNN, President Lenin Moreno referred to the issue of indefinite re-election as a political aberration.
“Another question that is being considered for the referendum is the elimination of indefinite re-election. In my view and I think, in the view of political ethics, Indefinite reelection is an aberration, it is a political aberration, why? Because politicians who consider re-election do not think about the country’s future,” Moreno said.
Moreno also said that Rafael Correa “showed him a coherent political landscape, but when I came to the government the situation was complicated … he asked me in Geneva to be his presidential candidate because the people needed me … We had talked a lot with Rafael Correa, and he told me that ‘the table was set;’ it is indeed set, but with nothing on it.” (I)
