Lesbian couple achieves judgment that endorse their union
Posted On 18 Jun 2014
The lesbian couple, who on Monday won the judgment to be recognized in their identity cards as facto union, shall wait 72 hours for their marital status to be modified by the Civil Registry.
Diana Maldonado, from Guayaquil, and Maribel Serrano, Spanish, must wait until the appeal filed by the Attorney General of the State is resolved.
Maldonado said that the resolution is given after submitting a protection action following the refusal of the Civil Registry, although since 2012 Judge Leonor Lapierre Rodriguez issued a judgment in favor of the couple that required the registration of the document.
The couple said they will continue their struggle until the Registry approves “gay marriage”.
