Mexicans pay tribute to Ecuadorian culture
Ecuadortimes:
Loja – For six months, ten Mexican artists took their bags and launched a great adventure and without knowing anyone they came to Ecuador. What was the reason? They were accepted in the In modality of the International Festival of Live Arts Loja. Since receiving the news they welcomed this inter-Andean province as their new home.
While members of the Collective Artistic Space in White await the day of the presentation of their new work in the Teatro Loja (25 and 26 November), they take over the central street Bolivar de Loja. There in the open air, in front of hundreds of people, the group shows a fragment of the masks of the world, a parallel proposal to the festival which seeks to “represent the different continents of the world.”
Sandra Gómez Arredondo, a member of the group that was born ten years ago in Mexico under the direction of Paloma Sosa, explains that her new work, called El navel del mundo, seeks to pay tribute to Ecuadorian cultures, since in the festival the group participates as a representative of the country.
“We are Mexicans, but we are representing Loja … Our work talks about the navel of the world that is Ecuador, of the four regions of Ecuador and we talk about the care of nature in these areas”, says Gómez about this proposal that includes scenic elements such as puppets, masks and projections.
The actress adds that working in The Navel of the World has been very interesting, because it has meant “to collect the research of ancient cultures and take them to the theater.” She ensures that the goal is to return to the anthropological theater a little more striking, especially for children. The dramaturgical scenic and costume work of the work is in charge of the members of the Artistico Colectivo Espacio en Blanco. (I)
