Ecuadornews:
The “gained decade” regarding education is in doubt. The construction of the Millennium Educational Units (EMU for its Spanish acronym) by the previous Government did not meet the objective for which they were created.
This was determined by the results of the impact assessment led forward by two technicians from the Ministry of Education, ordered by Minister of Education Fander Falconí.
The study was conducted with figures from 2016 and determined that 65 UEMs have been built and the construction of 52 schools is scheduled for this year to benefit 83,425 students. A total investment of 803 million dollars was set for this aim.
What were the results? For evaluator Juan Ponce, there has been no impact on the academic field. What will be done about it? The minister affirmed that a Plan for the Strengthening of the Millennium Units is envisaged. For this purpose, strategies go in three directions: strengthening of institutional aspects, the work of teachers, and the pedagogical work to fulfill the objectives for which these centers were created.
