Monteverde’s Gas reservoir on land will be inaugurated on September
The liquefied gas storage facility of the Monteverde-El Chorrillo project, will start on September 15, so said Romel Tapia, Petroecuador technician.
The complex, with an investment of $ 547 million, will have the capacity to store 60,000 tons of imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and will gather an amount of house-supply energy that might decrease after the announcement of President Rafael Correa’s project of replacing gas with electricity in kitchens.
Correa’s government plan aims to replace Ecuadorian families using domestic gas cylinders for electric stoves within a period of three years.
In addition, the complex will have gas reserves for 30 days until 2030 because “we currently have reserves for 1.4 days, the country is at constant risk, at any time something could go wrong and we would have a widespread shortage of gas,” said the president.
