More than 300 groups registered for pre-legislative consultation

316 groups have registered to participate in the pre-legislative consultation of the draft Law on Rural Land and Ancestral Territories
316 indigenous, Afro American and peasant organizations holding collective rights nationwide registered to participate in the pre-legislative consultation of the draft Law on Rural Land and Ancestral Territories, said Mauricio Proaño, vice president of the Commission on Food Sovereignty.
The ancestral lands represent 3% and 4% nationally, a reason why there were not so many organizations as in the consultation of the Water Resources Act. Yesterday was the deadline for the registration of the groups.
ECUARUNARI, a subsidiary of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie,) announced it will not participate in the pre-legislative consultation, and will resort to the right of resistance, because on March 5, they submitted five subjects for that query, which were not included, such as: land to those who work it and tax exemptions to agricultural property of households who have less than 10 hectares.
