Moscow citizens protest for freedom of expression
Several thousand people demonstrated today in central Moscow in a rally organized by the opposition to denounce the manipulation of information in the Russian media and in defense of press freedom.
The demonstration was initially called as “march for truth”, but it could not be held because the Moscow City Council did not authorize the route proposed by the organizers.
Although central rally slogans were “For an independent media”, “For the right to information” and “For an open society and against xenophobia,” those gathered chanted slogans against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile the director of censored digital newspaper Grani.ru, Vladimir Korsunsky said that Russian authorities “have declared war on the word” but stressed that “the word is something that cannot be fought.”
