MUNICIPALIDADES_ECUADORTIMES.NETStaff reductions, canceled social projects and halted projects are some measures taken by the mayors and prefects, since they have not received the Government’s resources.
Gustavo Baroja, prefect of Pichincha and president of the Consortium of Provincial Governments (Congope), says that until last week the debt to the provinces was around USD 180 million. He adds that they have no choice than demanding their rights. “Not only it affects provincial governments, this is an issue of national concern.” (I)
