The daughter of Ecuadorian rapper Gerardo Mejia ranked among the five finalists for the Miss USA. Nadia Grace Mejia is the representative of California and was the last to be called to the stage.
After being named among the 10 finalists, Mejia was approached by a journalist in the backstage. Miss California said she feels blessed to be in the top 10 and thanked her fans for chosing her. “Thank you all, I can not thank you enough. Long live Ecuador!,” she exclaimed. Already among the top 5, Mejia entered the round of questions. “One of the biggest challenges America faces is the social and economic inequality. How can narrow the gap between the rich and the poor be narrowed?” Was the question she had to solve in 30 seconds.
The question was criticized by the followers of Mejia on social networks. “Let’s be clear: if Miss California could solve income inequality in 30 seconds she would be the Sovereign of the World, not Miss USA,” wrote one Twitter user.
