A narco-criminal group hid drugs in excavations near the beach of Posorja, rural parish of Guayaquil (120 kilometers away). An agent of the Anti-Narcotics Investigations Unit (UIAN) – from whom the identity is reserved – reported that at night the individuals took the packages to the shore and embarked them in speedboats.
“The hiding places were difficult to see by air because of the amount of vegetation in the area,” he said.
The organization was led by the Colombian Jorge Estives C. M., who had an Ecuadorian identity card with another name (Jean Carlos C. G.). “He had a house in the canton Durán (Guayas), from where he coordinated the entry of Colombian drugs, transport and storage in coves built on the coastal profile, in the Bahía de Muyuyo sector.”
The researcher added that “the right hand” of the foreigner was the Ecuadorian Frigson Z. C., who recruited members of his family, who were fishermen, to support with logistics and transportation.
On the afternoon of Monday, May 21, the UIAN agents executed seven raids (mostly in Posorja) and apprehended 12 people, including Jorge and Frigson. None of the detainees have criminal records. During the operation called “Impact 199” 933 kilos were seized with 595 grams of cocaine, just under one ton.
The blocks had printed the logo of a car brand. In addition, 5 vehicles, 12 cell phones, $ 8,982 and 1,802,000 Colombian pesos. Carlos Alulema, national director of antinarcotics, reported that in Ecuador from January until May 17, 2018, 26 tons of drugs were seized, most of them cocaine hydrochloride.
In the same period, 4,726 people were arrested. “We have more detainees than the previous year. One of the anti-drug strategies is to capture those who commit the crime, “he said. He explained that one of the techniques that narcos use to enter the drug is to transport small quantities, for example, in interprovincial buses. “This way they avoid controls and if they are discovered they do not lose much”.
