New Dollar Coins to be Released by the Central Bank of Ecuador
The Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE for its Spanish acronym) announced that beginning Monday, May 21, 2012 new dollar coins will be released in the local market. These coins belong to a series called “Presidents of the United States,” which were minted from 2007 to 2011, as a tribute to those who were leaders of that country.
“These are legal tender and free movement coins; they have the same characteristics as the current ones.”
The BCE said that the dollar coin with the image of the woman with the baby on her back named Sacagawea will continue to circulate regularly.
The new coins have the following characteristics:
-On the front: Image and name of presidents- Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, James K. Polk, James Monroe, James Madison, James Garfield, John Quincy Adams, John Tyler, George Washington, Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Rutherford B. Hayes, Thomas Jefferson, Ulysses S. Grant, William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, John Adams.
-On the back: the image of the Statue of Liberty.
-At the edges: the legend “E Pluribus Unum,” IN GOD WE TRUST issue year and the initial letter of the place of minting.
‘Besides those coins: There will also be silver coins with the profile of Susan B. Anthony on the front and on the reverse an eagle holding an olive branch, this coin also has a value of a dollar and is a legal tender and free movement coin. (FL)
