Newspaper Hoy fulfils the sentence and apologizes for headline
Following publication of the article’s headline “Correa calls gay marriage novelty,” newspaper Hoy published an apology to the GLBTI groups for the text.
The publication occurred for the sentence imposed by Judge Veronica Medina, who accepted the protection action filed by the Ombudsman Ramiro Rivadeneira. The newspaper said that it was not an offense against the group, although the Ombudsman and Judge Medina maintained that it did.
However, the headline bothered the regime leader Rafael Correa, who said that the sentence misrepresented the statements he made to a radio about gay marriage.
Newspaper Hoy apology said: “As the judge orders, today we apologized to the public and in particular to the GLBTI community, which this newspaper in truth never offended.”
The ruling forced the media to compromise to not make similar mistakes.
