Tomorrow the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño will finish the four-day visit he did. Today the government official said that the safe passage will occur because “there is no alternative.”

Patino said that “the international human rights standards (such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the UN) have supremacy over any procedure, as in this case the arrest and extradition of a citizen.”

“We stand for principles, while the UK defends procedures,” said Patino. So far the efforts of the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister have made no significant progress with his counterpart William Hague, who said that communication channels would remain open.
