President Correa opens school and thermoelectric plant in Esmeraldas festivities
On August 5, President Rafael Correa participated in the celebrations for the independence of Esmeraldas with the opening of the first milennium school in the province: the Simon Plata Torres campus, of 4 hectares, located in the parish Simón Plata Torres. The investment was $ 6.8 million.
The facilities include a block of 12 classrooms, 2 blocks for preschool education, 8 laboratories (English, natural sciences, physics and chemistry), technology room, dining room, library, 2 sports fields, recreational and administrative areas.
Ecuador has 20,000 public educational establishments for 3 million people, of which 900 are new and 4700 have been repowered, but the dispersion of schools impedes the repowering of education. In response, the President clarified that “most educational units are needed”
Moreover, the Head of State inaugurated at night the Termoesmeraldas II complex, which will generate 96 MW (megawatts) of additional energy to the national grid. It has the latest equipment and will provide support in times of drought when the hydroelectric production faces problems.
The power plant is located 7.5 km away of the Atacames way . The project cost $ 114 million, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
The work will provide that city a thermal generation park of 228 megawatts with the use of petroleum waste.
