Posted On 22 Sep 2014
The Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, launched on September 21 a national disarmament plan that seeks to encourage the voluntary surrender of firearms in his country, the second most violent in the world, according to the UN, with a rate of 53 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
“We need to go to disarmament to crown the peace process. It is necessary that this disarment occurs with the collaboration of youth from their conscience,” said Maduro, who approved $ 47.6 million to create a national fund for the implementation.
