The opposition and government supporters agree on something in the Legislature: the two processes of impeachment that are under way – one qualified and another in search of support firms – accumulate as evidence media publications and videos.

This is detailed in the requests for the interpellation to Comptroller Carlos Pólit, who declared himself ill and is in Miami, and Vice President Jorge Glas. Both, because of their alleged relationship with Odebrecht’s corruption case.

In the case of the Comptroller, Legislator Daniel Mendoza signed the petition which includes as documentary evidence: 18 publications, videos and newsletters. All these resources, as they are called in the United States, are identified with their titles. In addition, they have dates of publication or broadcast between the 2 and June 6 of this year (see infographics).

This evidence calls the attention. During the political control of former Minister of Education and current chairman of the Education Commission, Augusto Espinosa, the government party, and its allies argued that the press cuts “were no evidence of anything” to file the lawsuit.
Why is only certain documentary evidence accepted? Hermuy Calle, of the PAIS party and a member of the Audit Commission, explained to this newspaper that the impeachment does not require evidence with the same rigor as a criminal trial.
For him, the newspapers allow a reference to the statements and the situation of Odebrecht, which involve the comptroller. “We have to be agile and fulfill our audit function because there´s no time to lose,” he said. (I)
