Program of Environmental and Social Repair will apply to public and private oil companies
The Minister of Environment of Ecuador Lorena Tapia, clarified yesterday August 12 that the Program of Environmental and Social Repair (PRAS for its Spanish acronym) that carring out the entity “does not refer to Chevron case,” but the pollution caused by “different public and private oil operators “in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Tapia was referred to an information disseminated by the news agency Efe about a recent visit of international experts who analyzed the environmental, scientific and legal implications of pollution in the Amazon region of the country.
Ecuadorian justice sentenced in 2013 to US oil company to pay 9,500 million for damages caused in the Amazon, where it operated between 1964 and 1990, but the Minister said that during the visit the experts when she mentioned the processes of undertaken repair in that area, referred “to the oil operation in general, in the Amazon.”
