Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, won yesterday’s presidential election in a process plagued with accusations and irregularities. The latest results of the polls revealed that Putin earned the 64,39% of the votes.

The contenders composed by the communist Ziuganov, was in second place with 17,13%, followed by the populist Jirinovski (6,71%) and Sergei Mironov (3,72%). Putin declared himself the winner in front of thousands of supporters rallied outside Kremlin, there he expressed his gratitude to extinguish what he called foreign plots to weaken the country.

However electoral observers pointed out multiple infractions to the law, despite the efforts of the authorities to give the process a fair election appearance. A journalist of AFP reported that in Bolotnaya Square of Moscow over a hundred of youths came in buses from other regions to vote specifically for Putin.

During the elections Putin ordered the installation of 180,000 webcams to follow the process. However system didn’t worked that well and the images were lost on several occasions for some minutes or seconds. Thus the cameras couldn’t control the entire process. (AV)
