Rafael Correa
The leader of the Ecuadorian regime, Rafael Correa, maintained that the decision of the Agency for Cooperation of the United States (USAID) will not overshadow relations with the United States. “If they leave (the country), as the song says, ‘ if he left without a goodbye, let her go, let her go,'” said the president yesterday.
Correa said that Ecuador does not need a type of cooperation of middle income. The president described alms and patronage the operations of USAID, furthering explained that the development of a nation is achieved with exchange of technology and knowledge, along with the opening of markets.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño expects Ecuador relations with the United States “hopefully not affect ” after the cancellation of cooperation.
Patiño added: “If Usaid leave the country because they have not signed the agreement for cooperation, I insist, is not an issue devoted to the U.S., it is for all countries. I hope you do not mind and if they are angry, bad luck, then must shake it off. I hope that this does not affect the relationship between the two countries.”
