Vicente Taiano, director of the Civil Registry, at a press conference on the morning of this Wednesday, April 1, 2020
The official detailed the protocol that the institution follows so that relatives of those killed by covid-19 can carry out this procedure . “We have implemented a protocol between the Ministry of Public Health and the IESS so that the family member does not have the need to approach our offices. Let us remember that the relatives of the deceased by covid-19 must be in an epidemiological fence and that is why the registration is done directly online between the health houses and the Civil Registry ”.
He also referred to the procedure to be followed by the relatives of deceased from other causes to carry out this same procedure . The first step “is that the family member must have the death registration form.” This is signed by the doctor, either from the family or from a health center. For deaths at home, you must be a Doctor of Legal Medicine or Forensic Medicine . “In this form, there is the cause of death.” The second requirement is to approach with the identity document of the applicant.
Taiano assured that the registration of deaths, while the sanitary emergency decreed at the national level lasts, will have no cost in any of the agencies of the Civil Registry.
Regarding the registration of births , he said that the regulation allows parents who want to register their children to do so within a period of 90 days. “Right now, the most important thing is to stay home and not expose live births.”
The director of the identification service assured, on the other hand, that the identity documents that are about to expire, or that have already expired, will be given a grace period of three more months. This, because the services of the Civil Registry have been limited during the state of emergency, decreed on March 16, 2020.
Taiano reminded citizens that through the virtual portal of the Civil Registry “the citizen can obtain different registry certificates “, such as birth, identity and marital status, marriage or de facto certificates . On the other hand, through the email servicios@registrocivil.gob.ec, “we are receiving all the concerns of citizens “.
