The announcement of President Rafael Correa of ‘ending up’ with ‘inequality’ in the armed forces intends to ‘confuse’ and ‘divide’ the institution.
Retired militaries Colonel Mario Pazmino and soldier Alejandro Valverde warned this yesterday. “All actions are aimed at the division of the institution,” said Pazmino when explaining why a group of retired military officers, including him, left last Friday a military act before Correa began his speech.
“We do not agree that they intend to play politics within the armed forces, and our exit from the ceremony is not in rejection of the military high command, is a rejection to the president’s policy,” said Pazmino.
That day the new military authorities were appointed, since the previous ones were dismissed by Correa, due to their opposition to the ‘settlement’ of accounts made by the State for an alleged ‘excess’ payment for the properties where the Samanes Park is currently located, in Guayaquil. (I)
