Ecuadornews:

The cyclist finished in fifth place in yesterday’s stage and remains as the best youngster of the Giro d’Italia. Today athletes will have rest.

Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz completed another great performance in the ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia. After winning the eighth, the carchense finished in fifth place in the course that took place yesterday.

Carapaz finished to four seconds of the winner of the stage, the British Simon Yates and his performance allowed him to climb positions in the general classification. Today he is already in sixth place, one minute 20 seconds behind the leader, Yates.

“I am very happy, even though it was a very exhausting day. I have received many congratulations from my compatriots, including the president (Lenin Moreno). I am very happy because we are making history, “said Carapaz at the end of the stage.

The Carchense kept the white jersey as the best youth for one more stage. He focuses on maintaining it, since it would be a great recognition and today, he can fight for the first place, he does not hurry to do it.

“I repeat that I will go every day in the Giro, because there is still a lot left. There are many stages of mountain and high mountain; we will be working day by day. Yesterday (Saturday) has been an epic moment, “said Carapaz, who still does not give full credit to his performance, in which he became the first Ecuadorian to win a stage of the three great laps of cycling.

Yesterday was the fourth birthday of his son Santiago and he dedicated his performance to the distance, while he strives for the streets and Italian roads.

His performance has not gone unnoticed around the world and several international media have highlighted it. “Carapaz, a star has been born”, he titled the newspaper Marca de España and indicated that the cyclist “presented himself in society” with his performance.

In England, the BBC and The Independent praised the performance, becoming the first Ecuadorian to win a stage in the Giro d’Italia. (I)
