Lenín Moreno: Supercom will be eliminated in the reform of the Communication Law in Ecuador
Ecuadornews:
The bill to reform the Organic Communication Law will be sent this Friday, May 18, for processing at the Assembly. This was announced in his usual link by the president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno. In addition, it has decided to sell the shares of the media seized by the previous government.
Freedom of expression is a right that should not be the object of control or surveillance, but of protection by the State, said the president.
He recalled that the communication law will be five years old and during this time has generated observations and questions regarding its application, especially related to the performance of the Superintendence of Information and Communication (Supercom), an entity that is deleted from according to the reform project.
Sale of seized media
After analysis during his government and the audits carried out by the Comptroller General of the State reveal that the management and administration of the seized media – in the previous government – were totally deficient, said Lenin Moreno.
Administrative responsibilities are determined as a result of these mismanagement, so it has been decided to sell the stock packages of those media, he said.
In October 2017, Andrés Michelena, secretary of the Executive, said that Gamavisión is bankrupt and TC Televisión stopped being a profitable channel.
These means cannot continue in the hands of the State because, in addition, they were an instrument of confrontation and attack on critical citizens, said Moreno to announce that “we leave a state of propaganda to a state of two-way communication, dialogue, a state democratic”.
When making a recount of the activities carried out, Lenin Moreno said that the National Tourism Development Plan was presented with three major projects: Riviera del Pacífico, Magical Towns and Tourist Circuit to increase the flow of tourists to Ecuador.
He also announced that next Thursday he will deliver the Orellana-Caviparayacu bridge, in the province of Orellana. (I)
